Suddenly I was surrounded by people in suits. Imagine the craziness. Anyway, the show was great and I was not to return to Dazzle till about four years later when a friend of mine kept trying me to go the super club on Broadway. Something about women ( a trend you’ll probably note). Anyway, away I went and headed down. As it turned out it wasn’t super it was supper and the women we were supposed to meet weren’t there and never did show up. But what did happen was I got drunk. And once I’m drunk enough I’m suddenly talking to everything and realizing that everybody had slept with everybody else in the room. That’s what the door told me anyway. It further explained that there were strange soap-opera happenings occurring at every corner. This person couldn’t speak to that person or that person couldn’t be here because she was DA DA DA dead. It became too much I bolted and ended up around the corner drinking at Lancer’s lounge. A story I’ll tell later.
Anyway my return to Dazzle has been in the last few years. I’ll admit it, this is one of my favorite none dives in town. I like Friday nights where I can listen to a great Jazz band, have the flambé chef cooking up little shots of peach something or another for free, and then in between sets have a bingo game played where if you win your drinks are free. I’ve even been lucky enough to scream out bingo the last few times I’ve played, thanks in part to the waitress slipping me an extra sheet. They also have one of the best Sunday brunches in town. All you can drink make-your-own mimosas and Bloody Marys can’t be toped. All the while again they’ve got a jazz band playing. Let me tell you, it is the next best thing to the morning after pill.
