So I’m not going to describe the circumstances that led me to drinking at Trios Enoteca on Wynkoop the other night. However, so that you can understand why, the occasion began as a simple opening of an old wound, which of course Papa Sobriety can handle. However, this particular occasion took more the form of a civil war surgery gone awry as still tender scar tissue was bludgeoned through with, I don’t know, let’s says a meat tenderizer. Upon the tenderizer breaching the nigh developed covering one would be tempted to examine with sadistic fascination the well crafted hooks and barbs that played like annelids chewing vermiculated patterns into the flesh while excreting salted feces in their wake. The wound that evening was then covered back over with a tender whisper that held only the promise of future incursions.ON THE BRIGHT SIDE, I'm drinking a lot more. And when I'm drinking the beer blog is productive, and if the beer blog is productive, you the reader are better informed so as to conquer Denver's bar scene.
I am again at Trios Enoteca on Wynkoop, the same place that I went in celebration of earning my sommelier many long years ago. I've been there a number of times so let me inform you that as a whole I've enjoyed it. The ambience is fashionable but not pretentious, the staff knowledgeable but not condescending, and often a jazz band is playing in the front. Their happy hour prices include 1/2 off glasses of wine and domestic drafts and they have a great small pizza and tapas menu to go along with the prices. The prices do begin to skyrocket though after happy hour so be careful to keep an eye on the clock if you're down to your last few bucks. Actually, if your down to your last few bucks…don't go here. Go somewhere outside of Lodo where beer is 1.00 a pint and Pabst Blue Ribbon isn't considered a premium. Again, Trios Enoteca nice for an after work meeting or later at night for a more intimate setting for two. The back rooms, where there used to be a cigar room, offers a more cozy intimate setting if you don't feel like being up front where the action is. Oh, and though I remain aware that this is a beer blog. They have a great cellar of wine.
Now I do have one thing to say about this particular evening, despite the evenings tortuous and torturous tendrils plaguing my heart; I would like to make note of one rather amusing fact. Although the waiter made sure that our drinks were in for happy hour (which should earn him an indulgence) it is more than likely that the man was snorting goblets of Tinker Bell's magic fairy dust in the back. His erratic demeanor and inability to remember two item orders didn't necessarily bother me; in fact, it added some much need levity to my situation. However, just a thought man; if you are competing in the Bolivian Olympic Winter Games (and I've got no problems if you are) maybe you should consider shooting for the Bronze, because you were all Gold the other night.
Until next time, remember to head for the first star you see at night and right on till morning,
Papa Sobriety
