I know that the 2 am drinking time sucks, but it’s the law and until we rise up and change that at least at Leela you can start ordering coffee or food and don’t have to listen to “Closing Time.” I hate that song. I’ve always hated it, and the fact that I can avoid it by going somewhere with decent food and service 24 hours a day, I’m there. In fact, if you’re interested, I am there pretty much every Tuesday night drinking and writing at the bar.
There’s a lot of great reasons to go to Leela European Café. One, you can study if you want to. Two, you can drink heavily if you want to. Three, the eclectic blend of people makes this one of the more interesting and open bars in Denver. Every breed, class, cult, sexuality, style, clique finds its way eventually to the spot located just down the street from the light rail stop with the big blue bear and under the Tarantula Pool Hall. The area Leela is in is a pond for both the seedy and fancy fish swimming in Denver. It is from that hodgepodge of interests and tastes that friendly and interesting conversation is your to be had 24 hours a day.
Also you’ll get to enjoy the great service of one of Denver’s best bartender’s Amanda, ask to try her slowly becoming famous shot, it’s name I’m struggling to remember right now. I suppose that that is what you want out of a shot.
